Magento community vs Magento commerce/cloud edition

As it is known widely Magento is one of the best platforms for building an Ecommerce store. And why do we claim that with confidence is because we have seen every bit of the platform’s ins and outs already.
Magento has made some changes after being purchased by Adobe management. And one of the improvements was that they officially announced three new Editions will be offered by the Magento. One will be an open source Magento, previously regarded as a community version of Magento. Second is Magento Commerce which was previously known as Magento Enterprise Edition. And third is Magento Commerce Cloud Edition, a fairly new introduction to the Magento platform.
There were plenty of merchants and developers after the official announcement, who were puzzled about what each version represented. The problem in each person’s mind was what advantages they will have over each other, and which version suits their needs better?
Well it depends on each person’s requirement. And we all have different requirements. That’s why we’re here to clarify which platform best suits you.
So let’s dive into it and get to learn which platform version is right for you.

2. Magento Open Source (Magento Community Edition)

Magento Open Source Edition is quite common, and is mostly used by start-ups and small to medium enterprises. You don’t need to pay any license fees to use this version. Means that you can access it from the official Magento website or from Github for free. You can also go on to this forum where we posted all the latest versions of the Magento Open Source Version from where you can quickly access the latest version of Magento 2.
Although Magento open source is free you still have to pay for your hosting service, which depends on your needs. Though it’s free it’s still competing with its big rivals. Magento Open Source offers great features you need to get your business started. This is why Magento Open Source Edition is most popular in the SMB segment.
While Magento Open Source has fewer features and no built-in Commerce or Cloud Versions plugins, it still can contend with other versions and related platforms. But it needs the right technology and a team of professional developers to be able to modify and improve the store in order to outperform others.
Magento is always trying to make the open source easier and more safe for all retailers and Ecommerce Entrepreneurs with every new version update.

3. Magento Commerce Editions (Enterprise Edition)

Magento Commerce is a bit of an advanced version with more functionality just out of the box than Open Source. While the core Commerce and Open Source codes are the same, Commerce Version still has some of the enhancements that include Page Builder, Better ElasticSearch, B2B apps, Automated Brand Relationships, Content Staging and Scheduling, Increased Quality, User Segmentation, Rewards program, Alternate Payment options, Store Credit, Admin Panel restrictions on various websites, Magento Priority Support, That are not included in the Open Source Version of Magento.
This version is designed primarily for larger organizations requiring priority assistance and additional features, as described above. Such larger organizations already have their own massive customer base and are generating revenue in excess of $250,000 a year. To use this version, you will pay a licensing fee beginning at about $14,000 or more which increases with your annual revenue. For the last two or three years Magento has been reinforcing the Commerce Edition. Which makes it the first option of all the major organizations.

4. Magento Commerce Cloud Edition

This is a relatively new entry for the Magento Editions list. Magento Commerce is like an on-premise service that Magento provides. At the same time, the Commerce Cloud is their primary product providing the cloud hosting platform with connectivity of related cloud services in AWS.
This edition has all of the above mentioned features, as well as a few more such as quick CDN and other tools for optimisation. Which also now has integration with Adobe services such as Adobe Target Adobe Analytics, Adobe Experience Manager, Adobe Campaign delivered to their premium customers.
When it comes to picking a version or re-platforming a whole store most of the big companies go with Commerce cloud as it gets better and better every day.

5. Conclusion

Therefore, in a nutshell, if I have to clarify to you which of the three choices is better well, it depends on your criteria and how much you’re willing to pay from the beginning.
If you are just beginning your business online and want to create an Ecommerce website, with a budget of no more than $10,000 a year, then you should go with the Open Source Edition.
If you are a single entity or big corporation with more resources and a large customer base, or you are sure that you will be able to acquire the customer base within one year of starting your venture, then you should go for Commerce or Commerce Cloud Edition
